What specifics is he promising this will deliver domestically? I can’t imagine Buenos Aires is on Putin’s shortlist even without the threst of NATO, and it’s not like Americans are goung to start beating the doors down for Argentine imports.
There’s tactful good relations, and then there’s “sempai notice me”. Although, the Cosplay Crusader may well be familiar with that trope.

For most of the last 75 years they could at least say “ooh, look, democracy”, “we’re far more westernized than our enemies”, “outpost for repressed diaspora” and “we made economic development out of nothing, what ever got built when it was Palestine” and it was enough to nerf most Western complaints. If they kept a low profile, they could slow-motion a genocide and get away with it. They had mastered a delicate ballet.
Thry got greedy, figuring they could leverage October 7th into a license for a full scale territory grab, and now they’re in full crackhead-with-a-Kalishnikov mode.
I’m not sure we should be dismissive of politicians trying to reduce interventionist foreign pokicy in the abstract. The “US as world police” paradigm is a difficult angle.
From the US perspective, it’s expensive AF, delivers erratic results (see Iraq) and it’s created a lot of enemies over the years, basically handing Russia and China a support base on a silver platter.
On a global level, it does seem a bit weird for everyone to come calling to one nation for support, which doesn’t really encourage a multi-voiced and spirited debate if everything breaks down to “whoever has US backing wins”.
There’s definitely a “we wrote a cheque we no longer want to cash” lock-in factor on this conflict, but maybe it’s also time to stop writing so many cheques.
