Cope cages on Western tanks, I think. Russians have had them for awhile but theirs look like shit.
I’m not entirely sure what they’re supposed to accomplish, which is what makes it a cope ig. That’s going to be irrelevant unless someone travels back to the 80s and steals some HEAT ammo. The tiniest amount of RPG or Javelin protection is my best guess.

I think maybe you’re confusing two different things?
HEAT is a shaped charge that explodes and compresses a thin layer of metal (usually copper I think) into a tiny superheated lance that is extremely good at piercing armor. There’s no spalling involved afaik.
HESH creates spalling by basically being a big explosive that moulds to the armor before exploding, and uses a quirk of how the force moves through the armor to make the armor on the inside break off and bounce around the tank- that’s spall.
I’m pretty sure just using bricks like this would be effective against both types of ammo, though.

Main problem is nobody made optics that can see to the opposite side of the planet. Personally, I think we should just take the direct route and fire it through the planet but the egghead sciency types keep complaining about “destabilizing the earths crust”. Whatever that means.
Plus, once you run out of ammo it makes a suitable(but slightly unwieldy) club.
