  • I don’t know how it is in other countries, but Spanish high school math competitions are designed to test both logic and creativity. They’ll require you to use the material from your current year, but the way in which you have to apply that math isn’t obvious if your only competency in math is specifically passing high school tests. You don’t get a good score by being a proficient human calculator, but by applying good abstract analysis, which you should be able to apply in other areas of your life.

  • Yes, Ukraine had a dangerous drift towards exclutionary Ukrainian nationalism for many years, which Russia promoted by igniting the conflict through their use of paramilitary forces in Donetsk and Lugansk, which made it great for Ukrainian supremacists and Russian supremacists to fester in both sides.

Despite that, Ukraine elected Zelensky, a Russian speaking president who spoke both Ukrainian and Russian during his inaugural speech as symbolism that it was time for their country to reconcile itself with its minorities.

But this fact is usually omitted in Russian propaganda, since it’s so devastating to their narrative.

  • Honestly this whole drama is so immature.

“What Israel is doing is terrible, on top of their mistreatment of the Palestinian people for decades they’ve now crossed a line and seem to be willing to remove them all from existence. This is a genocide, and we should enforce a cease fire and an embargo.”

“What Israel is doing is terrible, on top of their mistreatment of the Palestinian people for decades they’ve now crossed a line and are killing people indiscriminately. The fact that some people are calling it a genocide is telling of the immense gravity of the situation, and we should enforce a cease fire and an embargo.”

“How could you NOT call it a genocide??!?!?”

Both statements are virtually the same thing, have the same worries and are calling for the same solutions, yet the later get shat on because it doesn’t virtue signal. There are lots of seemingly dumb reasons why politicians and PR departments may choose to use some terms and avoid others, and some of those decisions are mere pragmatism that doesn’t change in essence their goal or effect. I think AOC has flaws, just like almost any politician, but making a gigantic deal out of this smells like it’s been promoted by grifters looking to start drama.

  • EU’s population: 448 million

    EU GDP: 19 trillion dollars

    Russia’s population: 143 million

    Russia’s GDP: 1,78 trillion dollars

Simplifying a bit here (I’m obviously taking Morocco and Belarus for granted, assuming that Turkey wouldn’t attack Greece, and so on), but it’s pretty much a “gotta get our shit together” situation, because there’s no reason why we should depend on the US for defense, or anything else.

  • I don’t like the expansion of NATO, but due to Russia’s recent imperialism, Sweden’s and Finland’s reactions are completely reasonable. A much healthier alternative would have been actually advancing towards an integrated European defense system involving EU members, with a door open to certain neighbours such as Norway, but it’s pretty hard to do that when the political groups that could actually promote that alternative are schizophrenically tolerating positions such as “I’m a pacifist, so I’m advocating for my own country’s disarmament despite my neighbours starting wars very recently” and “if Ukraine didn’t want to get invaded, they shouldn’t have sought guarantees against Russian aggression from third countries”.

  • “They’re all without shirts and they have a stick with a white cloth on it. The soldier feels threatened and opens fire. He declares that they’re terrorists. They (the Israeli forces) open fire. Two (hostages) are killed immediately,” the official told reporters in a phone briefing.

The third hostage was wounded and retreated into a nearby building where he called for help in Hebrew, the official said.

“Immediately the battalion commander issues a ceasefire order, but again there’s another burst of fire towards the third figure and he also dies,” the official said. “This was against our rules of engagement,” he added.

    But remember, not a genocide.
